Is the stage too high, or too low?
There has been a couple of occasions where the stage has been, let us just say, we didn’t take into consideration the height. In the last post, I mentioned Bjork being ‘energetic’ – this did come with consequences. We performed in Kent, this was one of those gigs that didn’t go well. This gig had 4 segments, one male comedian, a drag act (us), a singer and a band. The male comedian came off and looked at us and said, ‘Good luck, this is a real harsh audience.’
They were, they literally just wanted the band, and they made it very clear to the rest of the performers their disdain. But as Nikki wanted to try and save grace, she thought, ‘i’ll get ’em, I’ll give ’em something, and decided to jump off the stage on the first WHAM BAM of the chorus of ‘It’s oh so Quiet’ – needless to say, the stage was a tad too high, and Nikki had to limp through the rest of the show.
This is not the first time Nikki has fallen off the stage. Another time was during a Christmas party for a local gay group. Co did his rendition of The Time Warp and kicked the step away to perform the show better. Nikki comes onto the stage doing Sister Act, looks down, didn’t see the step had moved, steps down and falls onto the floor, but the true pro she is, just carried on as if it never happened. The audience even thought it was part of the show!
This was one of those rare occasions where the show was recorded, and we were told to send it to ‘You’ve Been Framed’, we did, it was on VHS (that’s how long ago!), so we sent it that way, along with release forms – it does mean we cannot show you that video, as that part is now copyright of ITV. Although this was over 20 years ago, it still gets shown, so if you see a video clip of a nun looking down and falling off the stage – that’s our Nikki!
We still do to this day get told by ITV when it gets reshown, we will try to tell people next time it’s on!
Yes, we did get the £250 – ONCE. No, it’s not a multiple view fee… EUGH!
